Presentations
Over the years we've frequently been asked for
copies of presentations. So we're trying to make them available.
And post more as time goes on.
Information science and
technology
This invited talk at the Air Force Research
Laboratories was on the topic of 'New Frontiers in Information
Science and Technology'. The focus was on the emergence of semantic
engines and their application to tough problems of recognition
and/or interpretation. Traditionally, folks speak of recognition
with regards to image data and interpretation with regards to
words. But our research has shown that the algorithms and
structures required to understand images - or other sensor data are
the same as is required to understand words.

the next generation of sustainability indicators to whch we were
honored to be invited. The public track focused on why and how to
apply state of the art decision support technologies to tackle
tough information problems in sustainability.
The expert track focused on the need for smart
information grids to link producers and consumers of sustainability
information. And to use the captured feedback signals to orient
research, measurement and analysis and to speed up the creation of
new and increasingly effective sustainability
indicators.
The environment department in Abu Dhabi sponsored a
workshop on sustainable development indicators to which we were
honored to be invited. This talk focused on computational methods
for estimating the financial value of water at an economic sectoral
